Remember the news about Gintama being "canceled" due to the arrival of a special anime? As previously reported, the anime project entitled 3-Nen Z-Gumi Ginpachi-Sensei (Class 3-Z's Teacher Ginpachi) is planned to air on TV Tokyo in 2025. On the other hand, a new Gintama feature film also recently aired in Japan in November. The movie is 2D Baragaki Arc, a compilation feature film project that will compile a number of episodes from the anime series, as well as some additional content.

Now another Gintama compilation feature film will be released. Titled Gintama on Theater 2D: Ikkoku Keisei-hen (Courtesan of the Nation), the film will compile episodes 257-261 of the anime series, and is planned to be screened in Japanese cinemas for 3 weeks, starting from June 21, 2024. There will be a number of new scene clips as well that were not previously in the series.
Gintama is a comic by Hideaki Sorachi that has been published in Japan since 2003, and was later adapted into an anime series in 2006 by Studio Sunrise (now handled by Studio BNP). The comic has also been adapted into a live-action film, where the first live-action film was screened in Japanese theaters in July and in Indonesia in August 2017, while the second film was released in Indonesia in October 2018. The first season of the anime series itself was also screened in Indonesia through the Indosiar television channel in 2011.
The Gintama series is set in Edo City which is being colonized by an alien army called Amanto. There is a Samurai named Gintoki Sakata who works odd jobs with his friends, Kagura and Shinpachi. With a story that feels a bit out of place and also "odd", what witty, exciting and thrilling things will Gintoki and his friends experience in Edo City? Follow the story of Gintoki and his friends in Gintama, both in the form of comics, and anime series, to live action films! The big screen movie Gintama The Final was also adapted into a novel.
Of course apart from this special anime project, Gintama itself ended a long time ago and so far there are no plans to revive the series, except for the special anime project 3-Nen Z-Gumi Ginpachi-Sensei (Class 3-Z's Teacher Ginpachi) and also the compilation feature film, which is actually just a compilation of the series' episodes, although there are a number of new scenes as well.
